REIKI (Pronounced Ray Key) is a Japanese word meaning “Universal Life Force Energy” and is the name given to a system of natural healing introduced to the West by Dr Mikao Usui.

Dr Mikao Usui 1
Rei meaning universal, transcendental, divine
and
Ki meaning Life Force Energy - This is the energy that runs through all living things, connecting us with everyone and everything.
Reiki is never sent, rather the person receiving reiki draws the appropriate amount needed on whatever level it is needed, physical, mental, emotional or spiritual, through the person channelling it. A Reiki practitioner will have undergone an attunement process, thus making this healing different to other types of healing e.g spiritual, often resulting in their biological frequencies being measured at a higher frequency than non attuned individuals. However this does not result in the practitioner being drained or tired during a treatment as the Reiki Healing Energy is drawn through their crown Chakra and travels down the arms and out through the hands, often resulting in intense heat being felt by both the practitioner and the receiver.
In an article in the Daily Mail, Lord of the Dance star Michael Flatley reported "Doctors said I couldn't dance for 60 days. But Reiki healed me in just four." After suffering a particularly bad injury, Michael turned to alternative therapies for help. He said "For me, the evidence speaks for itself. Healing helps me to overcome many injuries in a short space of time, which conventional medicine just cannot do."
Traditional Usui Reiki was introduced to the West by Dr Mikao Usui however you may now hear of other forms of Reiki such as Tibetan Reiki, Karuna Reiki and Angel Reiki.
